Some parts of being a professional tennis player aren’t great.
World No. 3 Jessica Pegula revealed the ugly side of the sport in a funny tweet after losing to Barbora Krejcikova 6-1 5-7 6-0 in the semi-finals of the Dubai Championships on Friday.
“Everybody’s like, ‘What’s it like to be on tour?’ It must be amazing!”
“Me: packed on your birthday, eating Doritos at midnight, waiting for a 16 hour flight home,” the American tweeted, along with a selfie of her munching on the crisps.
As well as reaching the semi-finals in Dubai, Pegula reached the final of the Qatar Open last week where he lost to the in-form Iga Sviatek.
“With everything,” Pegula added later tweet, “Proud of my efforts over the last two weeks. Time for some rest.”
Pegula has emerged as one of the top players on the tour over the past two seasons, posting career-high rankings in both singles and doubles.
But while Friday’s result was unexpected, at least she celebrated her 29th birthday with world No. 6 Coco Gauff.
“Our (mostly mine) terrible vocals for your birthday song,” Gauff tweeted to the answer. “But at least the cake was good.”
