Pablo Picasso said, “Inspiration exists, but it must find you working.” We have read several stories of how a man defies all odds to stay at the top. IAS officer Anju Sharma has a similar story. His journey from being a below average student to clearing UPSC is undoubtedly inspiring. Anju failed in chemistry and economics in class 10th and class 12th exams. He passed all subjects except these two with honors. He claimed that only success prepares you for failure.
But today, he believes that these two events in his life have shaped him into the person he is today. At the age of 22, he cleared India’s toughest exam, the UPSC. In an interview, Anju said that last minute preparation for your exam can lead to panic and frustration. Sharing an incident from his time in school, the IAS officer said, “I had so many chapters in my prelims and after dinner I started panicking because I was not prepared and I knew I was going to. failed. Everyone around me emphasized that 10th grade performance is important to determine our higher education.”
Anju recalls how her mother supported and encouraged her during a difficult period in her life. He also realized that he shouldn’t rely on studying at the last minute, so he started studying early for his college exams, which enabled him to win the gold medal of his college. He graduated from Rajasthan with BA and MBA. He cleared the UPSC exam in his first attempt because of this strategy. He completed his coursework well and was listed among the top scorers in the IAS.
