New Delhi:

Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) today announced that it will invest Rs 120 crore to install rooftop solar power at its Jajpur and Hisar facilities.

A 21 megawatt (MW) peaking project will be installed at Jajpur, while another 6 MW of rooftop solar will be installed at the company’s Hisar facility, JSL said in a statement.

“The two rooftop solar power plants will generate approximately 795 million units of electricity with a carbon reduction potential of 5,64,450 tonnes over 25 years,” it said.

Both projects are scheduled to be completed by March 2024, the company said, adding that the energy produced will be for consumptive use.

JSL Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said, “This is an important step towards achieving our net zero goal. Our commitment is responsible business practices and dedication to reducing our carbon footprint. We will continue this practice.” The company’s Hisar facility commissioned 4.1 MW rooftop solar projects capable of generating 110.7 million units of electricity and reducing 78,597 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

In 2021-22, the company reduced carbon emissions by 1.4 million tons, the report said.
