“Based on Chinese law, TikTok and ByteDance, which owns it, should be held accountable first and foremost to the Chinese Communist Party,” Sen. Warner told Fox News he proposed bipartisan legislation aimed at a rules-based, comprehensive model that would allow the commerce secretary or the administration to take action against the social media giant, including banning the app.
“We need a system that not only takes care of TikTok, but other future foreign technologies from countries like China that pose a national security threat,” he said.

The senator said China has become “much more aggressive” in its searches and has banned social media platforms such as Facebook.
“My background was in technology, and I see them as a threat not just in social media applications or telecommunications, but in artificial intelligence, quantum computing … synthetic biology,” Warner said. Fox News.
