The maximum temperature in Goa is likely to be 4-6 °C above normal, the IMD said

Schools in Goa will be closed till noon on Thursday and Friday as the state is expected to experience heatwave for the next two days. The day temperature in Panaji on Wednesday was 8.4 degrees Celsius.

“We have told schools to allow students to leave before noon. This is for today and tomorrow,” Shailesh Zingade, director of education, was quoted as saying. IANS.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Goa on March 8 and 9. “Maximum temperature in Goa is likely to be 4-6 °C above normal due to strengthening easterly winds, clear sky conditions and delayed sea breeze setting time. Persistence of these conditions may meet the criteria for a heat wave in Goa on Thursday,” the IMD forecast said.

The news agency, quoting its sources in the Department of Education, reported that many schools have been told to extend the exam time as they are holding exams. “The management should work on this and extend the exam time. They should take it seriously,” sources said.
