A Madhya Pradesh school principal was ordered, a hostel warden took over to conduct Bible classes for the students

Bal Kalyan Samiti members Omkar Singh and Anurag Pandey made a surprise visit to the school hostel on March 4 and found the children taking Bible lessons and taking them to church, police said.

The headmaster of a Mandla school in Madhya Pradesh has been convicted and his hostel warden arrested for allegedly teaching students the Bible and taking them to church, a police official said on Friday.

The case was registered based on a tip-off by Yogesh Parashar of Bal Kalyan Samiti (Child Welfare Committee) after a team visited St Joseph’s School in Goreghat Panchayat area under Mawai police station limits, the official said.

Accused school principal G.B. Sebastian has been identified as father and hostel manager Kunwar Singh, he said.

“Singh was arrested on Thursday and Sebastian is absconding. We have filed an application for Singh’s arrest, but the court is yet to issue a decision,” said Santosh Sisodia, officer-in-charge of Mawai police station.

Omkar Singh and Anurag Pandey, members of the Bal Kalyan Samiti, visited the school hostel unexpectedly on March 4 and found the children taking Bible lessons and taking them to church, he said.

Singh and Pandey reported the matter to the Kishore Nyai Board (Juvenile Justice Board), after which an FIR was registered against Sebastian and Singh under relevant sections of the Child Labor (Prevention and Regulation) Act, Indian Penal Code, Juvenile Justice Act, Religious Affairs . Freedom Act and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, Sisodia said.
