IGNOU introduces Master’s Program in Migration and Diaspora

The program aims to help candidates work in the field of migration management, diaspora engagement, labor flow and human trafficking, IGNOU said.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched Master of Arts in Migration and Diaspora (MAMIDI) through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode. It is the first of its kind to be introduced in the country under ODL mode from January 2023 cycle. The program aims to help candidates work in the areas of migration management, diaspora engagement, labor flow and human trafficking, IGNOU said. Students enrolled in this course are provided with hard and soft copies of study material, audio-visual program work and interactive counseling sessions. The total duration of the Master’s course is two years. The medium of this program is English.

IGNOU MA in Migration and Diaspora: Course Fee, Eligibility Criteria

The minimum duration of this course is 2 years and the maximum is 4 years. Applicants for the Master of Arts in Migration and Diaspora program must hold a degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

The fee structure for this graduate course is Rs.12,000 (Rs.6,000 per annum plus registration fee or development fee as applicable). Study material is available in both print and digital versions. The expected number of students enrolled in this course is approximately 100 per cycle. The total credit for this course is 80, which is divided into 40 credits per session.

The program covers a total of 80 credits and is expected to open up new opportunities for candidates to work in foreign and foreign ministries, United Nations (UN) organizations, diplomatic missions, civil societies and non-governmental organizations.

It also provides an informed understanding of migration processes, the development-migration matrix, the role of diasporas in development, policy decisions, planning and research, international migration and human trafficking regulations. This course will be useful for professionals working in the development sectors, United Nations agencies, cultural associations, foreign affairs, tourism and social entrepreneurs.
