The program aims to equip experienced civil engineers and architects with the knowledge and skills to manage projects efficiently, using resources and energy requirements and with a minimal carbon footprint.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur launches online postgraduate program in Civil Engineering. The institute’s civil engineering department will be launched by July this year, with the IIT claiming that the course is being launched for the first time in India.
“The program is a new addition to the unique e-Master’s program run by the institute and focuses on sustainable construction practices and project management. It is designed to meet the needs of the rapidly growing infrastructure and construction sectors in India,” said an official press release.
The program aims to equip experienced civil engineers and architects with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage projects, use resource and energy requirements and ensure a minimal carbon footprint. Developed by IIT Kanpur faculty and industry experts, it covers a range of topics including sustainable design and construction, green building materials, project management and sustainable project financing.
The practitioner-friendly format of IIT Kanpur’s e-Masters programs offers professionals a flexible approach to completing a degree anywhere from 1-3 years. The program includes visits to the IIT Kanpur campus, mentoring and career support.
The program will be launched in July this year and applications for the inaugural cohort will open at the end of March.
Professor Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT Kanpur said, “Infrastructure and construction sectors are major contributors to the Indian economy and addressing sustainability issues in this sector is critical. Like all other e-Masters programs that we successfully run to contribute to India’s holistic growth, this program is designed to provide the right blend of academic insights and industrial skills to meet the growing demands of an exponentially growing sector. Once launched, this program will help make the infrastructure and construction industries more reliable through safer and more sustainable practices.” IIT Kanpur currently runs nine e-Masters degree programs from various departments.
