The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Crime Branch has made the arrests, taking the number of people in the case to seven, he said.
In his complaint filed in December last year, Arun Vishwakarma said he got in touch with one of the accused, who convinced him to take admission in a medical college for an MBBS course. The accused and his accomplices did not fulfill their promise and did not return the money, says the crime department officer.
The victim contacted the JJ Marg police and filed a complaint in this regard.
“After receiving similar complaints, the Mumbai police formed an SIT and started an investigation. Four accused were arrested from West Bengal on Thursday and three others involved in the case were arrested earlier,” he said.
The four accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including cheating and forgery, and other sections of the Information and Technology Act. They were taken to court and the police remanded them till March 14, he said, adding that further investigation was underway.
