Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman Manan Kumar Mishra on Friday lamented that not even 20 per cent of the country’s National Law Universities (NLUs) are opting to practice law as lawyers.
Speaking at an event at the Indian International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa, Mishra said that most of the NLU students were more interested in getting jobs in various corporate firms.
“Not even 20 percent of NLU students choose to pursue a career in litigation, which is really disappointing,” he added.
Mishra said that many well-known personalities in the field of litigation have politely declined to join the bench to proceed with the case.
The BCI Chairman was speaking at the concluding session of a special three-lecture series at IIULER in Sankoale village, South Goa.
