According to Bhattacharya, 206 seats have been declared sensitive where there will be a three-layer screening system to prevent mobile phones or any electronic gadgets from sneaking into the examination hall to avoid any mistakes.

Around 8.52 lakh candidates, up from last year’s 7.45 lakh, will write their papers for the Higher Secondary Examination from March 14 this year. The number of girls will be higher by 1.27 lakh, which is 57.43% of the total candidates, West Bengal Board of Higher Secondary Education, which will hold the elections on Friday, said.

Last year, 54.79 per cent of the total examinees were girls, Board chairman Chiranjib Bhattacharya said at a press conference here. The exam will be held in 2349 facilities from March 14 to 27.

According to Bhattacharya, 206 seats have been declared sensitive where there will be a three-layer screening system to prevent mobile phones or any electronic gadgets from sneaking into the examination hall to avoid any mistakes.

Each facility has video surveillance and metal detectors.

For the first time, the Council has decided to use Radio Frequency Detector (RFD) to monitor the presence of any mobile or other electronic gadgets at some of the 206 sensitive locations, Bhattacharya said.

To a question, he said that most of the sensitive places are located in Malda district.

Candidates or other persons in the examination centers are not allowed to leave their seats from 10 am until one hour after the examination time.

The measures have been taken following reports on social media of alleged images of question papers appearing occasionally after the Class 10 state board examination this year and in previous years. However, the Council did not pay attention to this issue.

To a question, the Council chairman said the authority would seek to provide services to Group D staff of 7,000 higher secondary schools, many of which were not listed as examination venues due to cuts in services following court orders.
