Meghan Markle’s fans savaged the Duchess of Sussex during Saturday Night Live’s final show.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have come under fire on SNL as viewers of the show slammed the content after calling it “disgusting” and “misogynistic”.
The sketch saw Michael Che take aim at Prince Harry’s wife as he teased speculation the pair could appear at King Charles’ coronation in May.
The comedian took a dig at the duchess and joked that Harry’s wife was offered “$19 an hour” to attend King Charles III’s ceremony because she mocked Meghan’s image of her in a maid’s outfit.
Michael said in the segment, “The organizers of King Charles’ coronation have officially invited Meghan Markle. That’s good: at a starting salary of $19 an hour.”
Viewers of the show seemed to see the funny side, but fans of Meghan and Harry took to Twitter to express their anger at the cruel and ‘offensive’ sketch, with one replying: ‘Mind Michael Che is not funny. Never happened? Especially tonight with his cheap “Megan” joke – not funny – just getting used to insulting black women. Apologize and withdraw. But this is not forgivable. It’s not even funny! Just rude.”
Another wrote: “Misogynist Uggo Michael Che thinks misogyny is outrageous. “Why don’t men have their own day?” he bet privately. says.
A third replied: “Did the writers take a week off? This episode sucks.”
“WTF … you just can’t get Meghan Markle’s name out of your mouth. It’s sick,” wrote a fourth user.
New sketches have surfaced ahead of the 2023 Oscars. There is also speculation that American TV host Jimmy Kimmel, who is hosting the star-studded awards night in Los Angeles, may poke fun at the Sussexes.
