Shadab Khan said he was not aware of any information regarding rest for the upcoming three T20I matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
According to media reports, the Haroon Rashid-led selection committee is considering a proposal to rest some senior players, including Babar and Rizwan, for the Afghanistan series. The report further stated that Shaheen Afridi may lead the Pakistan team in place of Babar and has consulted the Lahore Qalandars captain about it.
“There is no such thing, if there was such a thing, we would have this information. I talked to both of them. [Babar and Rizwan] and nothing was said to them that we are all resting,” Shadab said after Peshawar’s 13-run win over Zalmi United in the post-match conference.
“If we were resting, we would have been told something like this. If such a thing happened, no one contacted us,” he added.
Former Pakistan cricketers Rashid Latif and Ramiz Raja criticized the new PCB regime led by Najam Sethi for trying to mount a “divide and rule” campaign against Pakistan captain Babar Azam.
“They [PCB] Attempts are being made to rest Babar and Rizwan for short periods and make Shaheen captain to create mistrust among the players and break the unity. They play divide and conquer policy. I don’t think they will succeed,” said Latif.
“Pak’s key players: Babar, Shadab and Shaheen against each other in a captaincy battle will not only destroy a great dugout environment but also kill the great white ball story built under Babar. Learn from history because this is how cricket was destroyed in Pakistan. 90s” , – said Raja.
