Tata Steel has announced that it will build 22 Vande Bharat Express trains in the next one year under an agreement with Indian Railways. Under the agreement, Tata Steel will also make seats for Vande Bharat Express from first AC to three-tier coaches. The contract to manufacture the train’s Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) carriages has also been awarded to an Indian company, under which panels, windows and rail structures are being manufactured.
Keeping this in mind, an agreement has been signed between Indian Railways and Tata Steel for several schemes to speed up production operations. Under the scheme, the Indian Railways has currently awarded a tender worth around Rs 145 crore to a multinational steel company to manufacture parts for the train, which should be completed in 12 months, IANS reported.
Designed by Tata Steel for the Vande Bharat Express, the seats can rotate 180 degrees and offer airplane-like passenger comfort, a first in India. Debashish Bhattacharya, Vice President (Technology and New Materials Business), Tata Steel said, “This train is equipped with aircraft-like passenger comfort with seats that can rotate up to 180 degrees and is a first in India. ”
Composites division of Tata Steel has started operations on this route after receiving a bulk order for Vande Bharat Express seating system, including 22 train sets of 16 coaches each. According to IANS, Tata Steel is constantly looking at increasing its stake in the railways and has also deployed officials to coordinate with the railways.
