RAWALPINDI: Pakistan white-ball team vice-captain Shadab Khan revealed the skipper on Sunday. Babar Azam Not informed to rest for the upcoming T20 series against Afghanistan.
Speaking to the media after match 29 of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2023) in Rawalpindi, Peshawar Zalmi won by 13 runs against Islamabad United, Shadab Khan said he asked Babar about the reports but was not aware of it.
There are reports that the opening duo of Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan may be rested for the three-match series scheduled in Sharjah later this month. Shaheen Afridi may be assigned the command of a squad.
It has also been reported that emerging players Saim Ayub and Ihsanullah may be given a chance in the squad for the UAE tour along with Faheem Ashraf and Imad Wasim.
However, in the latest development, sources said Geo news Afridi may also not play and will be captained by Shadab Khan.
Earlier on Sunday, sources said Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Committee of Management Chairman Najam Sethi contacted Shaheen Afridi over phone and offered him the captaincy, which he agreed to.
In a press conference on Sunday, journalist Shadab Khan was asked if there was any information about Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan being rested for the series against Afghanistan and Shaheen Shah Afridi being the captain.
For this, Shadab asked the journalist if he was also resting.
“It is not clear whether Rizwan, Babar or I are being rested for the series against Afghanistan, I am hearing it from you, if there is such a thing, you would have told us.”
Shadab further said that he asked Babar Azam and he also did not know anything, if such thing happened we were informed but no one contacted us regarding this matter.
It should be noted that three T20 matches against Afghanistan will be held in Sharjah on March 24, 26 and 27.
