Michelle Yeoh reflects on ‘breaking the glass ceiling’ at the 2023 Oscars

Michelle Yeoh talked about breaking the glass ceiling after her historic Best Actress win at the 2023 Academy Awards on March 12.

The actress continued: “I think this is something we’ve been working towards for a very long time and tonight we broke the glass ceiling.”

“It’s not just the Asian community,” the Malaysian star explained.

“It’s for the Asian community and anyone who identifies as a minority,” he said.

The actress explained, “We deserve to be heard; we deserve to be seen; We deserve an equal opportunity to sit at the table. That’s all we ask. Give us a chance. Let’s prove that we deserve it.”

Giving advice to others, Michelle suggested, “If it’s your passion, if it’s your love, you have to stand up for yourself and what you believe and what you want to do.”

“I am still here today. “Finally, after 40 years, I realized this and I encourage people to never give up,” the actress explained.

Michelle added, “Keep that fire burning in your side and stay on track. Believe. Dare to dream. Because if you don’t dream, it’s impossible.” She reminded herself that the best thing her mother taught her was confidence.

“Nothing is impossible. Look at me, I’m here,” he finished.
