In early trade today, the rupee gained 25 paise to 81.81 against the US dollar, buoyed by positive sentiment in domestic stock markets and the greenback against major currencies.

On the Interbank Currency Exchange, the exchange rate of the domestic unit per dollar opened at 81.78 and decreased to 82.06. It later settled at 81.81, up 25 paise from its previous close.

On Friday, the rupee was trading at 82.06 against the US dollar.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.77 percent to 103.78.

Brent oil futures, which is the world standard of oil, increased by 0.30 percent and amounted to 83.03 dollars per barrel.

In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading up 262.24 points, or 0.44 percent, at 59,397.37. The broader NSE Nifty was up 79.50 points, or 0.46 percent, at 17,492.40.

Investors are closely watching the events following the collapse of the Silicon Valley bank in the US.

The US Federal Reserve on Sunday announced a new emergency lending program to boost the banking system’s capacity, and amid the banking crisis in Silicon Valley, some analysts expect the Federal Reserve may even be slow to raise interest rates. to curb inflation.
