Holding saffron flags and placards and chanting ‘Stop Admission Scam’ and ‘Bring CUET’, the protesting students raised slogans demanding the introduction of CUET for all courses.
A group of students staged a protest outside Jamia Millia Islamia demanding admission to all courses through Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
CUET was introduced last year by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for postgraduate and postgraduate admissions. However, earlier this month, JMI announced that it will stick to its admission process.
“We have gathered here to protest against the rejection of CUET. Why is there a problem with Jamia when every central university accepts it,” said Ashutosh, a student.
The protest was organized by the RSS-affiliated ABVP.
The protesting students held saffron flags and placards reading ‘Stop Admission Scam’ and ‘Bring CUET’ and raised slogans demanding CUET for all courses.
The students also said that the PhD marks have not yet been issued by the university.
Earlier this month, JMI decided not to use CUET for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions except for 20 programs due to lack of time to amend university rules, a senior official said on Friday.
This year, twenty courses including B.Sc.(Hons) Physics, B.Sc.(Hons) Chemistry will be offered admission through CUET, which is 10 more than last academic year.
The UGC has recently asked JMI to introduce CUET UG in all courses from the academic session 2023-24.
