Adapted from the 2006 graphic novel by Jin Luen Yang, the series tells the story of Jin Wang (Ben Wang), who was born to Chinese immigrants and struggles to grow up in a predominantly white neighborhood.
Wang befriends a Taiwanese student at school before falling into a conflict involving Chinese mythological gods.
“Dark forces beckon,” Yeoh says in the teaser.
“The fate of your world hangs in the balance.”
Yoh plays Wang’s aunt, who is busy “maintaining her secret identity as a powerful Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion.” Diversity.
Ke Hui Kuan is expected to play Freddie Wong, “the star of a popular 1990s sitcom.”
