Four new medical colleges to be established in Assam in one year (Representational picture)
With the latest approval, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will increase to 1,500, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said in a statement.
The number of medical colleges in Assam will increase to 12, with a new one in Nalbari getting approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to start the MBBS course from the 2023-24 academic session, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister called it a “historic achievement” for the state, which opened four new medical colleges in a year.
“We have reached another milestone! Happy to share that Nalbari Medical College has been approved by the National Medical Commission to admit 100 MBBS students,” Sarma tweeted.
With the latest approval, the total number of MBBS seats in the state will increase to 1,500, state health minister Keshab Mahanta said in a statement.
He said the Assam government has set a target to increase the number of medical colleges in the state to 24 by 2026.
