Puducherry: The Puducherry government on Wednesday declared holiday for all schools up to Class 8 from March 16 to March 26 due to the spread of H3N2 flu virus in the Union Territory.

Addressing the Assembly at zero hour, Home and Education Minister A Nammasivayam said that due to the spread of flu, especially among children, the government has decided to declare all schools, including private institutions and government-aided schools from primary, as holiday. to the 8th grade.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister S Jeakumar said that the territorial administration has introduced a Government Order (GO) which provides for reservation in Group B candidates in the recruitment of non-gazetted posts in government departments. Earlier, all members belonging to the opposition DMK and Congress walked out of the House protesting the introduction of prepaid meters for electricity consumption in the Union Territory. DMK Leader of Opposition R Siva, who led the march of members, said installation of such electricity meters was “anti-people” and had created chaos among electricity consumers. The head of DMK demanded to remove the prepaid billing system.
The protesting legislators disagreed with Minister A Namassivayam, who also holds the electricity portfolio, on the introduction of pre-paid power consumption meters to prevent power theft and pilferage.
