My father was a farmer’s son. He wanted to be a veterinarian, not a farmer. However, my grandfather did not want to pay for her to go to university. So at 18, after the war, he was drafted into the RAF, after which he just wanted to travel.
My mother started nursing in Carlisle during the Second World War, and after the war she too wanted to leave the cold, dreary Britain of the 1950s through rationing. Both ended up in Bermuda and the rest is history!
What did they teach me?
The war changed everyone’s outlook on life in ways we cannot understand today. But he almost automatically taught the next generation to be resilient, thankful, and work hard to succeed.
These values stayed with me and ran through my core. Indeed, these were values that the late Queen, like my parents, had so well exemplified.
My career
I’ve always been a self-starter – both my parents taught me that if you want something, you have to go out and do it or find it.
When I had the opportunity to go to university (and it was paid for by the state!) than them, I learned that if you want to make a difference, the change starts with you.
In the 1990s, I went from being a scientist to becoming a lawyer, which I completed in the evenings at the Faculty of Law. As a scientist, I’m drawn to IP and everything that technology once recognized.
A twist in a fairy tale
However, when I entered the profession, I realized that it was necessary to radically change it. After 10 years at several large law firms, I decided it was time to sail my own boat and tackle customer service issues in the legal profession.
Being a female founder
I have learned that many SMEs are poorly served by large law firms, and smaller law firms lack the appropriate expertise.
So in 2007, I founded Virtuoso Legal, a company dedicated to helping companies maximize the value of their intangible assets.
Sixteen years later, I still support this cause. As a female founder, I’m proud to be among the first female entrepreneurs to continue to make the change we all want to see over the last decade.
Our current values are thanks to that
My upbringing and personal journey have shaped my firm’s values.
My dedication to customer service has earned me a reputation for excellence in the legal field. At Virtuoso Legal, we love supporting growing businesses with an entrepreneurial spirit.
We understand the value of hard work, perseverance and gratitude. These values are essential to success and anyone can achieve their goals if they are willing to work for it.
Our company has helped many SMEs to protect their intellectual property and achieve their business goals.
We are proud to be a champion for growing businesses. We believe that every entrepreneur has the potential to succeed with the right mindset, determination and support.
This is the next generation of entrepreneurs
My story is a testament to the power of determination and the importance of following your passions.
Here’s to the next generation of entrepreneurs who will carry on our legacy of innovation, hard work and excellence.
That’s why I’m so excited that Virtuoso Legal is not only supporting the innovative ideas of female founders, but also sponsoring the E2E Female 100. At the same time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with female founders, and they are, of course, me. I will share a story similar to mine.
