The 36-year-old left-hander will undergo a fitness test during the cages on Thursday and experienced all-rounder Mitchell Marsh said he would not be rushed unless he is 100 per cent fit.
Marsh said Warner will be evaluated Thursday and “hopefully he will come.”
“There will be consultations today, if he’s not 100 per cent ready, there’s no need to back down, I know that,” Marsh said at a news conference on Thursday.
The all-rounder said all Australian players are looking forward to this series as it gives them an opportunity to stake their claim for World Cup selection.
Warner’s situation is being closely monitored not only by the Australian team management but also by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals, who have made him captain for the upcoming 16th season of the cash-rich T20 league in the absence of regular skipper Rishabh Pant. The franchise will be relieved if Warner plays three ODIs against India like Australia did.

While Warner on Thursday released a video of him playing cricket with kids in Mumbai, the final call on whether he will play the first ODI will be taken tonight or Friday morning.
