When one of the ABVP members asked why they invited Minai, who is known for his anti-India views, Mehta said that he was invited as an academician.

Baroda’s Maharaja Sayajirao University (MSU) canceled a seminar on Wednesday after Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members objected to the presence of a Jamia Millia Islamia University professor.

Zubair Minai, a professor, “is a communist and known for his anti-Indian views,” said the head of ABVP, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-affiliated student body.

MSU Faculty of Social Work organized a workshop on “Respecting Diversity through Collaborative Social Action” on Wednesday afternoon at its campus.

One of the invited speakers was Professor Minai, Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi.

But soon after the event started, ABVP members reached the venue and shouted slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ forcing the organizers to call off the event.

In a video that has gone viral, ABVP members can be seen confronting Dr. Bhavna Mehta, Dean of the Faculty of Social Work.

When one of the ABVP members asked why they invited Minai, who is known for his anti-India views, Mehta said that he was invited as an academician.

ABVP members then asked Mehta not to invite such people in future.

Mehta was not available for comment.

“Minai is a communist and is known for making anti-India comments. He even made similar comments against (late RSS ideologue) Nanaji Deshmukh. Why did the faculty not find a suitable academic in Gujarat to speak on the subject he should be invited to? ABVP will never tolerate such people with anti-India views,” said Dhruv Parekh, ABVP MSU unit president.
