A new BBC adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic novel Great Expectations retells the story with some tweaks. The series is about an orphan boy who falls into the hands of a rich old woman whose life is ruined due to a failed relationship.
The limited series stars Academy Award-winning British actress Olivia Colman as the stunning Miss Havisham.
The teaser for Great Expectations focuses on the breakup as Olivia Colman (The Crown) is pictured in a see-through wedding dress with a messy veil. Bad teeth and a desolate look paint the exact image of the terrifying Miss Havisham.
The scene shows Miss Havisham meeting Pip (Fionn Whitehead) for the first time, where she says, “What precious creatures we were, fishing from the river.”
The creator of the series is Stephen Knight, creator of the TV series Peaky Blinders. It will premiere on Hulu on March 26, 2023 on FX.
In addition to Olivia Colman, the cast as Miss Havisham includes Fionn Whitehead as Pip, Ashley Thomas Jaggers, Jonny Harris Magwich, Shalom Brun-Franklin Estella, Hayley Squires Sarah, Owen McDonnell Joe, Tristan Gravelle, Compeyson and Matt Berry. As Mr. Pumblechuck.
