Ben Affleck has shown love to his “flamboyant” wife Jennifer Lopez for helping him understand fashion and style in his latest film. Air.
The 50-year-old Batman actor is set to direct and star in an upcoming film about Michael Jordan and his partnership with Nike.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Affleck was asked about J.Lo’s influence on the script. The actor replied, “Oh my God, she’s amazing.”
The Gone Girl star added, “She’s incredibly aware of how fashion evolves through culture as an intersection of music, sports, entertainment and dance.”
“Lopez helped me talk about the fact that one of the reasons Jordans make so much sense is that 90 percent of culture and style in America is based on black culture,” Affleck said.
“Black culture was the historical originator of music, dance, fashion, and then it was stolen and appropriated and resold as Elvis or whatever. And in this case, [Nike]a white-run corporate entity began selling identities with African American athletes,” he continued.
Affleck continued, “They really appreciated who Michael Jordan was and who he was. I think the meaning cannot be overstated. They go from, “Hey guys, we’re good shoes,” to, “If Mike had it, you’d want it.”
In addition to Affleck, Air stars Matt Damon, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina and Marlon Wayans. The film will release in April.
